CSP Global’s Grow Your Own Grant Program

Building on a shared commitment to strengthening the educator workforce, the partnership between KTA and CSP Global is opening new doors for aspiring teachers in Minnesota. Central to this initiative is the leverage of the Minnesota “Grow Your Own” (GYO) Grant program, which aims to diversify the teaching profession and provide clear, affordable pathways for community members to enter the classroom.

Here is an overview of how these programs work together to support the next generation of Minnesota educators.

Paving the Way: The Grow Your Own (GYO) Grant

The Minnesota Department of Education (MDE) established the Grow Your Own Grant to address teacher shortages and increase the diversity of the state’s teaching staff. The program is designed to “grow” teachers from within their own communities—targeting paraprofessionals, non-licensed school staff, and community members who already have deep roots in local schools.

Key Benefits of the GYO Grant:

  • Financial Support: Grants provide tuition scholarships and stipends, significantly reducing or eliminating the out-of-pocket costs for educator preparation.
  • Community Impact: By supporting local talent, the program ensures that students are taught by educators who understand their community’s unique culture and needs.
  • Career Advancement: It provides a structured bridge for those already working in schools (like EAs or paraprofessionals) to move into high-demand, licensed teaching roles.

Flexible Pathways to Licensure at CSP Global

To meet the GYO Grant requirements, candidates must enroll in an approved teacher preparation program. CSP Global offers two specialized, 100% online tracks designed for working adults that are fully eligible for GYO grant usage.

Accelerated Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education (K-6 Licensure)

  • Transfer-Friendly: CSP accepts up to 90 transfer credits, allowing you to maximize prior learning.
  • Flexible Pace: Complete coursework and field experiences on a full-time or part-time basis.
  • Speed to Success: Finish one course every 8 weeks, taking two courses per semester.
  • Total Accessibility: All general education requirements can be completed online or through transfer.

Master of Arts in Teaching (K-6 Licensure)

  • Open Entry: Designed for individuals with a bachelor's degree in any field.
  • Dual Value: Earn your Master’s degree while simultaneously working toward your initial K-6 teaching license.
  • Fast-Track Timeline: Approximately a 22-month completion time, including holiday breaks.
  • Career-Ready: Like the BA, this program is 100% online with 8-week courses, allowing you to stay employed while you study.

Why Choose CSP Global?

Concordia University, St. Paul (CSP) is a leader in accessible, career-connected education. With a 130-year legacy, CSP is ranked as the #1 private university in Minnesota for social mobility, reflecting its mission to provide high-ROI pathways for diverse student populations.

The CSP Advantage:

  • Affordability: CSP offers competitive tuition rates and is the top Pell-eligible private university in the state.
  • Military-Friendly: As a Yellow Ribbon school, CSP provides specialized support for veterans and their families.
  • Supportive Environment: Programs are built with “working adults” in mind, offering asynchronous classes and dedicated faculty who understand the balance of work, life, and school.

Take the Next Step

If you are ready to transition from a support role to a lead teacher, the KTA/CSP partnership and the GYO Grant offer the financial and academic support to make it happen.
